As of the latest reporting, Southlake Mayor Shawn McCaskill confirmed the interior had been completely gutted for the buildout and construction was still underway, with no new date on the calendar.
A few miles west, at 2055 W. Southlake Blvd., Wonder, the chef-driven food hall with menus built around Bobby Flay and Marcus Samuelsson, filed permits pointing to a construction window running from April 2 to June 12.
Both projects required construction from the studs out. Wonder's 3,868-square-foot buildout is a purpose-built kitchen platform designed to run over 20 restaurant concepts through one line, nothing like a typical restaurant shell. Hudson House needed its predecessor's sushi bar, tanks, and layout torn out entirely before a single leather booth could go in. Compare that to Ascension Coffee, which is taking over the former Corner Bakery in Town Square, a straightforward café-to-café conversion with existing plumbing and service infrastructure already in place. Ascension was scheduled for a late-August 2026 opening.

Whistle Britches remains the reliable choice for a Saturday brunch that doesn't require gambling on a reservation. Truluck's is running a discount on its special-occasion menu through early September, which makes it worth booking now rather than waiting. And Ascension Coffee's planned opening would mark the brand's seventh location and only its second in Tarrant County, bringing a full espresso bar and single-origin slow bar to a corner of Town Square that has sat empty since Corner Bakery closed.

Not everything worth planning around this fall depends on a certificate of occupancy. Oktoberfest Southlake turns 25 this year, running Friday through Sunday, October 16 through 18, in Town Square, with free admission and free parking as it has been for two and a half decades. The lineup has Friday's warm-up slot going to Ashmore, a rock cover band that has shared stages with acts like Motley Crue and Bon Jovi, followed by an AC/DC tribute act called Back in Black as the headliner. Saturday brings blues act Texas Flood, led by Tommy Katona, as the warmup, with 90s boy band tribute Larger Than Life closing out the night. Two more dates worth circling before the leaves turn. Celebrate Southlake, the city's birthday event, runs September 12 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Rustin Pavilion, free to attend.
